Personally i find it highly unlikely they will quote for 18/19 year old - i may be wrong but most will be 25+
FJ used them for 3 years but then they cranked up premiums -so with Aviva now (£300 cheaper than everyone)
Who is RH???
Flux - used their estimate feature on Pheads Classifieds - nothing (sorry but i am still angry about it!)lying crooked scum bastards _________________ Radio, wall of sound.Stay tuned to this frequency! |

Bit of a shocker this one, but today I finally got round to cancelling the insurance on the Volvo that I'd renewed on June 10th.
I was told I wouldn't be getting any sort of refund because "They don't do them on classic policies or policies under £100"
This is the same company that simply took the money from my Visa card account a couple of weeks before the renewal date.
Fair enough, buried in the small print of the renewal notice was a paragraph saying they would do it "For my convenience...blah, blah, blah..." and if I didn't want them to I could phone and cancel, but be honest, how hard do you study a renewal notice beyond looking at the quote itself?
It was under £100 so it's not worth getting too annoyed by it, but I'll never use Adrian Flux again that's for sure! _________________

These people are.
I've just emailed them for a quote to see how they compare with the renewal notice I have from FJ. Although I've found FJ to be excellent, they were a bit arsey about the BMW when I asked them to add it to the policy. They refused, saying it needed a separate policy because it's a BMW. I guess they just don't like them. |

My reasons for anger are - i got a handy quick online estimate based on certain assumptions - which seemed reasonable, i then phoned to give exact details - which i reckon reduced the assumptions risk by at least 50% - but i wasn't expecting them to drop the estimate quote - and i was more than happy with it - and yet these crooks gave me a revised quote which had shot up by 50% - i challenged them as to how the estimate could increase so dramatically when i had massively reduced my risk "Oh totally wrong details"
which they failed to elaborate on
So beware - if you get a nice quick estimate for a large engine top range car from Flux -they are quoting you for the shitty puny engined base model in reality

Thanks for that - be interesting to see if they match FJ prices _________________ Radio, wall of sound.Stay tuned to this frequency! |

Two things.
Beware of signing away "continuous authority" BBC Moneybox linky 1, BBC Moneybox linky 2. The episode I heard the other week was the case in the second link. Even though the card was cancelled the continuous authority was still valid.
Pro-rata refunds. Look at most classic car policies (which on the whole are dirt cheap) there are generally no pro-rata refunds for the remainder of the insurance. (Pro-rata rates on standard motor policies are pretty stingy too. Often you'll get hee-haw back past 8 months.)
Changes Try and make these coincide with the renewal date. FJ for instance dips the pocket for a £15 admin charge, so either make all the changes at the same time or on renewal if you can.
For the last 4 years here, despite premiums being high over here for the use I want to be covered for (e.g. daily), I've shelled out for my insurance in a one-r. |

Does anyone else find that the insurance group of a car makes far less difference that they thought it would?
I'm talking about moderns here of course, I've just spent 10 minutes getting some quotes for a couple of different cars and the difference for me between a group 4 1.2 Clio and a group 19 Fiat Coupé Turbo was about £150!!
So bugger this idea I've had in my head recently of just getting a sensible wee hatch for tooling about town in, there's no point in not having something fun! _________________

But for "you" what sort of percentage difference is it? |

Clio £270, Fiat £425, so just over half as much again compared to the lower premium.
In percentage terms it might seem a high figure, but in the context of car insurance a 50% increase is nothing when a younger person might pay 1000% more than me to insure the Clio.
For a laugh, I just entered the reg number of a full blown Scooby Impreza STi currently on Ebay for £7,500.....
Tempting...... _________________

I reckon you mistook the £150 difference - as it was really £1500
Is the possible Scooby Impreza STi going to feature some ZOOM door stickers for the full maxxed look? _________________ Radio, wall of sound.Stay tuned to this frequency! |

Just to bounce in late about Richardsen Hosken (RH)
They use Equity Red Star policies like Footman James and many others
However. RH do pro-rata refunds - I get them all the time and the reason I stay with them.
Mid-term adjustments - no fee.
Add a vehicle mid-term - no fee.
Remove a motor, £10 fee.
The most I've had on my RH policy was five cars at once, all £80 each Fully-Comp inclusive of tax and Green Flag European cover. Curfew hours apply if within locality of your house (fair enough) and the nominated 'main' car must be garaged in my case (fair enough)
I avoid Aviva (Norwich Union rebranded as their reputation stank) like the plague now. We have trouble with our house insurance with them now, and the wifey's RAC policy is now with Aviva (Aviva 'bought' RAC, the Aviva customer services fella told me) and they charged her £80 for getting married. |

I don't care about any insurers reputation -Aviva could be funded by Mugabe, Osama and Saddam - i don't care - all i want is lowest price possible - and when you live in a inner city area that is impossible with 99% of insurers

Seconded.
I don't care what 'benefits' a policy has, I'd take a 'you can't make a claim on this policy' clause if I got insurance cheap enough*.
Apart from two windscreens I've never claimed on any car insurance policy, and unless I'd suffered a total loss on a car worth a good few grand, I wouldn't.
* I know such policies exist, but perversely they're dearer than fully comp because they're for 'bad boys'. _________________
